Unless the Lord build the house, they labor in vain who build it.

In Psalm 127, Solomon cautions us that we build nothing valuable except through the grace of God. As co-directors of Philomena House, a new pro-choice shelter for homeless, pregnant girls and women, who want their babies to live, we thank Him for His abundant graces and blessings this year.

We believe Providence has blessed us. Here’s how:

We are now operating as a charitable, tax-exempt, 501 (c) (3) organization, making us eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions.

Our volunteer board of directors meets monthly and an advisory board brings resources to bear on our work as needed. (Using our new laptop, our volunteer treasurer is able to handle a host of financial and record-keeping tasks.)

Volunteers, competent in social services and community organization, meet with our core group of Philomena House organizers many hours a month to help us as we begin help new mothers and give them choices other than abortions.

Of course we need a residence! We hope to rent a home in St. Paul by July 1, 2012, large enough to accommodate three or four guests for several months at a time. (Better still, we would be pleased with the donation of such a home.)

As with most nonprofit organizations, we are making headway in discovering private individuals and foundations to award us grant money, so we can open Philomena House this summer. (Should you know of such a donor that matches our stated goals, call us or email Joyce Nevins.)

To further fundraising efforts, we’ve distributed a brochure and lately spoken to a few groups to spread the word and attract contributors. (We are still accepting invitations to speak. Just ask Joyce.)

Please contribute…and please pray for Philomena House!
